PELE'S 70 YEAR'S MAGNIFICENT CAREER (1940-2022)
Former Minister of Sports of Brazil and Legendary footballer, Born on the 23rd October 1940 in Trรชs Coraรงรตes, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil

Pelรฉ began playing for Santos at age 15 and the Brazil national team at 16.

During his international career, he won three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970, the only player to do so. He was nicknamed O Rei (The King) following the 1958 tournament.

Let's say he is the real GOAT in the history of football right.

Pelรฉ is the joint-top goalscorer for Brazil with 77 goals in 92 games. At the club level, he is Santos' all-time top goalscorer with 643 goals in 659 games. In a golden era for Santos, he led the club to the 1962 and 1963 Copa Libertadores, and to the 1962 and 1963 Intercontinental Cup.

Pelรฉ's "electrifying play and penchant for spectacular goals" made him a star around the world, and his teams toured internationally to take full advantage of his popularity.

During his playing days, Pelรฉ was for a period the best-paid athlete in the world. After retiring in 1977, Pelรฉ was a worldwide ambassador for football and made many acting and commercial ventures. In 2010, he was named the honorary president of the New York Cosmos.

Averaging almost a goal per game throughout his career, Pelรฉ was adept at striking the ball with either foot in addition to anticipating his opponents' movements on the field. While predominantly a striker, he could also drop deep and take on a playmaking role, providing assists with his vision and passing ability, and he would also use his dribbling skills to go past opponents.

In Brazil, he was hailed as a national hero for his accomplishments in football and for his outspoken support of policies that improve the social conditions of the poor.

His emergence at the 1958 World Cup, where he became the first black global sporting star, was a source of inspiration.

Throughout his career and in his retirement, Pelรฉ received several individual and team awards for his performance in the field, his record-breaking achievements, and his legacy in the sport.

In 1994, Pelรฉ was appointed a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. In 1995, Brazilian President Fernando Henrique Cardoso appointed Pelรฉ to the position of Extraordinary Minister for Sport. During this time he proposed legislation to reduce corruption in Brazilian football, which became known as the "Pelรฉ law."

The Brazilian President had eliminated the post of Sports Minister in 1998. In 2001 Pelรฉ was accused of involvement in a corruption scandal that stole $700,000 from UNICEF. It was claimed that money given to Pelรฉ's company for a benefit match was not returned after it was cancelled, although nothing was proven, and it was denied by UNICEF.

In 1997, he received an honorary knighthood from Queen Elizabeth II at a ceremony in Buckingham Palace. Pelรฉ also helped inaugurate the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, alongside supermodel Claudia Schiffer.

Brazilian legendary Pele has died following a long battle with cancer, his agent Joe Fraga confirmed.

He had been hospitalised since November with multiple ailments. On Thursday, his daughter Kely Nascimento wrote a tribute to her father on Instagram: “Everything we are is thanks to you. We love you infinitely. Rest in peace.”

The 82-year-old three-time World Cup winner, whose real name is Edson Arantes do Nascimento, was also suffering from heart and kidney problems.

Pele had a tumour removed from his colon in September 2021. He was admitted to the Albert Einstein hospital in Sao Paulo on November 29.

On Wednesday, the hospital said his colon cancer was showing “progression” and he needed “more extensive care to treat kidney and heart failure”.

Following Argentina’s World Cup win in Qatar, Pele posted a picture on social media of their team lifting the trophy and hailed performances from captain Lionel Messi, France’s rising star Kylian Mbappe and surprise semifinalists Morocco.

“Today, football continues to tell its story, as always, in an enthralling way,” he said. “What a gift it was to watch this spectacle of the future of our sport.”

Brazil players and fans in Qatar was also spotted with banners on and off the pitch with an image of the football legend and wishes for his recovery.

But finally Pelรฉ bows out on Thursday, 29th December 2022 at the Albert Einstein Israelite Hospital, Sรฃo Paulo, State of Sรฃo Paulo, Brazil...
